The Board of Directors of KIO, a leading company in data centers and information technology in
Latin America, announced today that Jorge Sapien, the company's CEO since 2021, is stepping
down after over 13 years of dedicated leadership as part of the company's succession plan. The
Board of Directors has appointed Octavio Camarena as the new CEO.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of KIO highlighted “Jorge’s leadership and his multiple
contributions and successes at KIO. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank Jorge
for his loyalty and dedication to the company, employees and customers, and look forward to his
continued partnership and leadership as a Board member of KIO going forward. I would also like
to welcome Octavio as the new CEO and thank both Jorge and Octavio for the seamless
transition”.
Since joining KIO in 2010, Jorge has played a key role in various significant strategic projects,
including debt issuances in public markets; mergers and acquisitions of several businesses in
cybersecurity, application management, data centers, metropolitan fiber network, and cloud
services; the international expansion in Panama, Spain, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, and
Colombia; as well as the implementation of the current global business strategy. Jorge has been
recognized by HITEC as one of the top 50 Hispanic technology leaders worldwide in 2020 and
2022 and, and by Data Center Dynamics LATAM as Industry Leader in 2023, among other
awards.
Octavio Camarena joined KIO in 2013 and has led the company's technological infrastructure
services over recent years. Octavio brings over 22 years of experience in the IT services industry
and has built a strong network of corporate and government clients, as well as technology
partners in the region. Octavio is a pioneer of the Software-as-a-Service model in Latin America,
as he transformed how companies consumed business technology applications from an
acquisition to a rental model. Octavio has been awarded as Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst &
Young, the New Entrepreneurs award by the magazine Líderes Mexicanos and as one of the “30
under 30 promises” by the business magazine Expansión.
Octavio has seated in several board of directors for profit and nonprofit entities, including the
Dean's Council of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and the
Mexican Red Cross. He is also active in venture capital, supporting investors and entrepreneurs
as member of Angel Ventures Investment committee and AC Ventures, the Corporate C of Arca
Continental and previously as a mentor at Endeavor. Octavio holds a B.A. in Economics by
Lawrence University (Magna Cum Laude) and a Master in Public Policy from Harvard University,
John F. Kennedy School of Government.
