MEXDC, the Mexican Association of Data Centers, is born

Mexico, in addition to being the second most competitive economy in Latin America and one of the fifteen largest in the world, is one of the countries that leads the present and future of the data center industry. Mexico has good connectivity that allows for minimal latency, but it needs more specialized labor, competitive costs for both energy and renewable sources, and a transparent, simple, and stable regulatory framework, as well as the availability of more industrial land with access to energy. .

 


All these advantages do not leave any company in the sector indifferent. More and more are betting on landing in this country with large investments. However, there are numerous challenges that the industry still has to overcome in order to continue positioning the Mexican data center industry in the international context. The moment is now and aware of the need to support the development of the sector, the Mexican Association of Data Centers (MEXDC) has been founded.

The Bajío area, one of the areas that arouses the greatest interest, has been the enclave chosen for the signing of the Constitutive Act of the MEXDC Civil Society, today February 15 in the city of Santiago de Querétaro. Founding partners and promoters are Ascenty, DatacenterDynamics (DCD), Equinix, Layer9 Data Centers, Odata, Scala Data Centers, KIO. After this date, on March 22 at an event the Association will be officially presented in Mexico City to the Data Centers industry, government, institutions and the press.

Main objectives of MEXDC, the voice of the industry 

 

 


MEXDC will act as a speaker, as a recognizable point of contact, for the needs of the industry, being the interlocutor between the government, the media and society in general, in addition to managing issues related to regulation, economic policy and social.

 


He will be responsible for promoting and ensuring the image and economic importance of the data center industry, both in the short and long term. In addition to securing and protecting the position achieved by the Mexican data center industry today, it will also lay the foundations for the future of the sector.

 

Another of the Association's lines of action will be the promotion of initiatives to improve the relationship between data centers and the environment, with the aim of guaranteeing a more sustainable tomorrow.

To ensure the survival of this sector of such potential and relevance for the digital economy and society, it is essential to have specialized and trained human talent to have the appropriate foundations on which to consolidate this growth. To this end, they will promote public education programs for the development of qualified personnel.

The Board of Directors is made up of Amet Novillo (Managing Director Equinix Mexico) as President, Alejandro Cantú (COO Layer9) as Vice President, Jose Luis Friebel (Managing Director Latam DCD) as Secretary General, Arturo Bravo (Managing Director Ascenty Mexico) as Treasurer, and as members Santiago Suinaga (CEO KIO DataCenters), Carlos Forero (Managing Director Latam Odata) and Dax Simpson (Director Expansion Latam Scala).

 

The board of directors appoints Adriana Rivera Cerecedo as Executive Director of the MEXDC Association. Adriana is a lawyer by profession with 25 years of experience in the Public sector and more than 9 years in the private sector, with extensive experience in Civil Associations.

Adriana's last public positions were Deputy Attorney for Environmental Audit and Natural Resources of PROFEPA and she was technical secretary of the Climate Change Commission of the Senate of the Republic, since 2014 she has worked in practice.

The activity of the Association will be based on:

 

  • Preparation and dissemination of all kinds of studies, market analysis, preparing activity indexes, performance, classifications, rankings or impact measurements.
  • Development of coordinated actions or in collaboration with any level of the administration for the understanding and analysis of any normative, regulatory or operational change that may affect the sector or its business models.
  • Collaboration, under any regime, with the administration for the launch or development of projects aimed at digital adoption or evolution, migration to the public cloud or outsourcing of their data centers.
  • Holding events, seminars or promotional and dissemination activities.
  • Dissemination to the media, public representatives and society in general of all kinds of knowledge or position on any issue relevant to the Association.
  • Participation in fairs, meetings, subscription to international alliances and, in general, any type of activity that implies the defense of the sector, the creation or recruitment of talent, the international promotion of associates and other actors in the sector.Any colocation or hyperscale data center company that operates infrastructures in the Mexican Republic can become a MEXDC Associate, and any company in the data center ecosystem can participate as partners: manufacturers, integrators, distributors, engineering companies, consultants, etc.
